How do you get the subject line to automatically come up filled in preceded by "RE:"?    I posted a reply using the reply button and the subject line was blank.  Do you have to type this in yourself?  I looked for a option in my profile, but did not see anything.

If you click "quote" in the upper righthand side of the post you are replying to, it will set the subect to Re: their subject and quote their message.

And does it really matter, since the forum keeps the threads separate anyway?  (This was posted with a subject "Re: the subject line in posts", by using the "quote" link.  Does the "new" subject line appear anywhere?)

Thanks - got it.  And I see there is a button title saying "Reply with Quote" when hovering over the button - I just didn't try that  - I must have seen the reply button first.  And now that I've previewed this reply - I like how the quotes are presented, although I'm wondering how narrow the boxing effect will get with a trazillion replies.

You can always trim the quotes, as I have done here.

I think there is a limit of only 1 gazillion.
