Hello Gentlemen/Ladies

One of my clients has purchased an new large HP color printer.

It is working as expected except for one troubling problem that i must resolve.

This printer is a HP lase jet 5550 dtn. We have added two large capacity trays to it.
So this printer now has on manual feed tray (standard), one large tray (standard)
and two additional large trays.

So in effect four trays.

Using the standard PCL codes i can direct filepro to all trays EXCEPT the fourth or "bottom"  tray.

Any words of wisdom...... Grin

Thanks

I have found that what one guesses to be tray # does not necessarily match HP's definition of tray #, so many times i just trial and error the proper code until i find the one that matches HP's tray numbering:

PCL CODE (that is the lower case letter 'el' between & and H):
<ESC> & l # H
# = 0 - Print current page (paper source remains unchanged)
1 - Feed paper from main paper source
2 - Feed paper from manual input
3 - Feed envelope from manual input
4 - Feed paper from alternate paper source
5 - Feed from optional large paper source
6 - Feed envelope from envelope feeder *
7 - Autoselect
8 - Feed paper from Tray 1 (right side tray)
20 - 39 - High Capacity Input (HCI) Trays 2-21

Ken,

Are you sure that you have a good electrical connection to the bottom tray?

Does the printer repond when you open the drawer on that tray?

What codes are you using to reference each tray now?

The Bottom tray works fine. All windows workstations can access it with the hp windows driver.

If you can make it work properly through a windows driver, then send the windows output to a file and examine the file after to see what code was used for the tray selection.
