We have found while  investigating license server crashes on SCO Unixware and OpenServer 6 that the crashes can be avoided by turning off logging. This can be accomplished by placing a '#' character at the beginning of all lines in the the fp/logs/servlog.cfg file.

We found that we were not able to duplicate these crashes in house on our Unixware system until we applied Maintenance Pack 3 and the Maintenance Pack 3 supplement patch.  The crash is occuring in an operating system library function and we are still investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

More news as it become available.

i think you mean maintenance pack 2 for openserver 6, not 3.

as far as the logging breaking the license server - what is the name of the scientific principle where observing an experiment actually affects its outcome?

I assume you are referring to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle?

We are aware of a license server crash that can occur on OSR6 and Unixware platforms even when license server logging is disabled. We have traced the crash to corruption of the heap but have not yet been able to identify the cause of that corruption.

We felt that we could not justify holding the release of 05.06.04, with its important non-server licensing fixes, while we tracked this bug.

We are actively working on resolving this crash but until we do our recommendation is for OSR6 and Unixware installations to run without the license server.

there are still problems with 5.6.4 on openserver 6 w/mp2 and no license server running.   system shows running out of licenses when it is not.  there are no diagnostics to see why this is happening.

please advise.
