Topic: search a field from another file

I have a detailfile#1 which on the screen display references information from a master file.  The field is defined as !AD and in the automatic processes is listed as AD=masterfile<4>.  Can I search from the detail file using the field from the masterfile?  If so, how?

If there is detail directions somewhere, please tell me where.
