In preparation for an upgrade from 4.08 to 5.6, I've downloaded the demo version to attempt a migration of my existing data just to see how it works. Here's the steps I've performed;

1. Installed 5.6 on new XP workstation in c:\fpdemo
2. Copied existing FP and FILEPRO folders into new area
3. Reinstalled 5.6 to same area

These steps were suggested by Lauren, although I probably heard her wrong and screwed it up! I've also tried the install, then created my own dir c:\fptech, copied my folders in to there, then reinstalled to my new area, still get the same error.

I see all of my stuff on the menus, but when I try menu selection "B" (Inquire,Update,Add) then select my option "JOBENTRY" I get the following error
*** A filePro Error Has Occurred ***

Edit Name: GLCODE

Edit type not found.

I'm sure there is something I need to tweak in a config file or perhaps the setenv.bat, any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Although I'm a systems engineer, I'm new to this software and don't have manuals so be gentle!

You need to copy fp/lib/edits file from your old system to the new one.

If you modify print definition files you may need to move some .prt files from the same directory.
