Browse function
« on: November 20, 2007, 09:36:13 AM »

Hello,

Working with release 04.01.  Browse function is no longer displaying information.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Dan

by browse function, do you mean the browse from choice 5 of in inquire/update/add menu, also available when you press "B"-browse from then enter selection prompt?  if so, has someone modified the browse format that the screen is supposed to display?  what changed?  was a password added to the file?  did the command line that called this activity change?    give a bit more detail, please.

Thanks Joe.

Yes. Choice 5 from this screen is the toggle browse mode. This is turned on.  I am then using index selection (choice 4 from the same menu).  This is where I select my browse. (ex F List Supplier Number).  The browse function seems to be selecting records but they are not being displayed on the following screen.  This has always worked up until two days ago.

As far as I know, no formats or passwords have been changed.

are you seeing anything displayed so that you know records are selected in the index?  does it work by record #?

if so, play with the fields on the browse format screen, make sure they fit and don't overwrite each other.
if the file has a creation password (does it?), there are other issues involved.

Got it.  Looks like many browse formats have been created over time.  The one that matters most, 'default', had been cleared out.  Not sure how.  Probably done inadvertently.   I guess this is why creation passwords are available.

Thanks!

creation password would not have saved you on this one, doesn't protect browse formats.  only thing that would have protected you is a backup or playing with file's permissions/attributes to deny write.
